Our Inception and Management
During the time-frame between 2007-2008, the Florida Senate passed two legislative bills appropriating funds to create the Institute for Strategic Policy Solutions (ISPS) at St. Petersburg College (SPC). Its purpose – to serve and educate Florida College System students and citizens on the purpose of government and discussing critical issues of the day from a non-partisan perspective.
Fast-forward to 2011, SPC proceeded with designating ISPS as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit and a Direct-Support Organization (DSO) of the college under Florida Statute 1004.70. ISPS operations and personnel are managed by St. Petersburg College leadership and the ISPS board of directors.
The SPC leadership consists of the Board of Trustees, President, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dean of Public Safety, Public Policy, Ethics, and Legal Studies, and the Executive Director of ISPS. SPC leadership manages the facilities, personnel expenses, department supplies, internal control, human resources, legal, accounting, information technology, and procurement infrastructure. ISPS Board of Directors that volunteer their time and expertise to our organization come from varied backgrounds and professions and are responsible for advising and supporting the advancement of the Institute’s mission.
