History and milestones

St. Petersburg College’s Model United Nations (MUN) team has excelled in national and international conferences. Our students have risen to the occasion despite competing against juniors and seniors from major colleges and universities.

While the team has participated in a total of 35 national/international conferences, they have attained the Outstanding Delegation Award 16 times (46%), the Distinguished Delegation Award 8 times (23%), and the Honorable Delegation Award 5 times (14%).

Thus, the team has received a major team conference award over 80% of the time. Given that the odds of winning one of these three major awards is only 40%, SPC’s Model UN team has significantly over-performed other colleges and universities. SPC’s Model UN team has won the Outstanding or Distinguished Delegation award at every National Model United Nations (NMUN) conference since 2016. For comparison purposes, the odds of winning one of these two major awards is 30%.

Our students have also excelled at the individual level as they have obtained six position paper awards since 2015. The position paper award is a tough one to win as it requires a lot of extensive research (only 5% win it).
