Academic Enrichment

The Institute seeks to enhance the academic experience by providing real-world learning opportunities for SPC students. It maintains a collaborative relationship with the Public Policy and Administration bachelor’s degree program, one of the fastest-growing academic programs at SPC. It also has collaborated with the Departments of Applied Ethics, Social and Behavioral Science, World Religion, Legal Studies, and Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art to present programs to enhance the classroom learning experience. It continues to seek internal partnerships that further the college’s prime mission of ensuring student success in their academic and career goals.

The Great Debate Competition is a wonderful example of how our internal partnerships enhances student success. This annual academic event invites students at SPC’s primary learning centers to engage in debate of topical issues outside the classroom. Students who volunteer for the competition are randomly paired to debate the pro or con viewpoint of an assigned issue, with the chance for the best debaters at each campus to advance to the finals and compete for prizes up to $1,000. Watch below as SPC student finalists debate the topic of Free Speech on College Campuses during the 2016 Great Debate finals.
